 How To Make Delicious Barley Soup Pakistani Food Recipe Step By Step Instructions:

Ingredients:Delicious Barley Soup Pakistani Food Recipe

  • Pearl barley (1/2 cup )
  • Oil or Butter (1 tbsp)
  • Ginger (1/2 tbsp, finely chopped, 1/2 inch)
  • Garlic ( 1/2 tbsp, finely chopped, 2 cloves)
  • Red Chili Flakes ( 1/2 tsp)
  • 1 Potato (1/2 cup peeled, diced to 1 inch)
  • Tomato Puree (1/2 cup )
  • Curry Powder (1 tbsp)
  • Carrot (1/2 cup, 1 small carrot )
  • Green Beans (1/4 cup, 4 to 5 french beans)
  • Green Peas ( 1/2 cup)
  • Sweet corn kernels (1/4 cup, optional )
  • Salt (1 tsp)
  • Coriander leaves (3 tbsp)
  • Water or Broth (5 to 6 cups)

Instructions:

First Preparation:

Add barley to a large pot and rinse with water a few times. Drain the water. if you want you can soak the barley for 4 to 8 hours. Soaking helps to cook faster and is great for digestion.

How to make Soup:

Take a large pot add oil and heat it. Add ginger and garlic. Saute for 30 to 60 seconds until aromatic. Then stir in the red chili flakes.

  1. Add potato and barley and pour water or broth into this pot. Simmer until barley is tender and soft. (Soak barley cook under 20 minutes and unsoaked barley grains take a longer time.)
  2. Now add curry powder, tomato puree, sweet corn kernels, french beans, peas, and carrots
  3. Stir and continue the simmer until the vegetables become tender
  4. Add salt to taste. If you want you can add more curry powder for flavor. Barley soup is thicker upon cooling. If it is too thick then add water or broth and simmer a little longer.
  5.  Stir in the fresh herbs, coriander, or parsley
